PRIVACY POLICY
Privacy policy
This page describes what SenseChord stores, why, and how to get rid of it. You can browse and play from the whole library without an account and without telling us who you are.
What we store if you never sign up
Page views are counted so we can see which songs are being used. For each view we record the path, the page title, the referring site's hostname, your browser's user-agent string, a random visitor ID held in your browser's local storage, and a one-way hash of your IP address.
Your IP address is never written to the database in a readable form — it is hashed with a secret key on arrival, which lets us tell two visits apart without being able to recover the address. The visitor ID is a random value generated in your browser under the key sensechord-visitor-id; it is not linked to your name or email, and clearing your browser storage resets it permanently.
What we store if you create an account
- Your email address — used to identify the account and sign you in.
- A display name — shown next to any comment you post.
- Your password, hashed. Passwords are stored only as a bcrypt hash. We cannot read your password, and neither can anyone who obtains the database.
- Your favourites and playlist — the songs you have saved.
- Your ratings and comments — the star ratings you give and any comments you post, which are public alongside your display name.
Cookies and local storage
SenseChord does not use tracking cookies and carries no third-party advertising or analytics scripts. Three values are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in cookies:
sensechord-visitor-id— the anonymous page-view ID described above.chorder-token— your sign-in token, so you stay logged in between visits.chorder-user— your name, email and role, so the interface can show your account without a round trip.
Signing out deletes the last two immediately. Clearing site data in your browser removes all three.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers or analytics companies.
- We do not build advertising profiles or track you across other sites.
- We do not email you marketing you did not ask for. Account emails are limited to things you initiate, such as signing in.
Song images
Thumbnails on song cards are loaded from the site a chord sheet was sourced from, so that site's server can see the request. If you would rather it did not, blocking third-party images in your browser leaves the rest of the page working.
Deleting your data
You can remove favourites, playlist entries and comments yourself at any time from your profile. To delete the account and everything attached to it, ask and we will remove it — the account record, saved songs, ratings and comments. Anonymous page-view rows cannot be traced back to you and so cannot be deleted on request.
Children
SenseChord is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it. Material changes to how existing data is used will be announced on the site rather than made quietly.
